I am not quite sure in which section this post should go, but since it will kinda contain a suggestion, I decided for the suggestion forum.
Well the topic's title says it: I am very eager to actually see something working, but I did not see a post in the forum after @Countpain's response to my last suggestion - so I wonder what we 'normal' people can do to actually help with the creation of this game.
By what I understood so far, we can:
1. create oles/pictures whose can be used ingame
2. use the npc-chipping tool to puzzle own npcs together
3. write new quest line dialogues
Well and then are some things like 'make the forum active and add some forum games' well, but this may only entertain but not actually help in progressing.
But I am looking in some more things that we can do. And by 'we' I refer to a group that may not be that good in the stuff mentioned above but who are definitelly eager to help aswell.
1) Well in my case.... why I am not really offering in doing the game's art work is because you for sure don't want me to do it. Believe me. Here is an example of my drawing feat (@QueenC please do not look at this picture, you may get nightmares):
It is an unimpressed Lion - @Lion asked for one, so here is it. Maybe it gets added to the game, but let us hope this guy won't
2. Well, the chipping looks interesting in first place but I kinda miss something there.... like creating a completely new face or new body, not just chip a char together out of already existing parts. Maybe it is just me, but I get very fast bored in this program, though I gave it a shot and the result was that forum avatar I am using now (though I had to past-rework it with paint to change it enough that this forum accepts it).
3. Hmmm.... I kinda tried to add a quest by introducing the NPC I created (see argument 2), but I kinda lack of ideas to add new ones. The difficulty is that I first need to know where we are, how this world that the game is looks like, how the language is, how the moralical understanding is, etc etc etc. Once I see the surroundings I can come more easily with a quest via 'oh here could be a quest holding place that goes so and so'. But without having that base I could only guess how this world might be and taking the risk that it is completely different to what the creator of this game wants. And I deny to make quests like 'Go to X and kill Y monsters, then go to Z' because everyone can fill a whole page with this dense stuff in no time.
--- Suggestion/Question ---
Sooo... again the thing: What can we do?
I like to suggest a few things that I suggested in other topics but morely as side notes:
4) Allow us to help translating this game into other languages. For starting we might just translate the interface drag-overs or the skill descriptions.
5) Would it be possible to get hands on a chipping editor like the one Hydro showed in one video? Of course people can only create map suggestions that would have to be confirmed first, but this would also allow that good concepts could be added or get added after changing them a bit to fit better.
This would allow users to bring some effords into the game while the current OL team has less work and can focus on other stuff more.
So in conclusion it could be like this: You say you want to add a new desert wilderniss which has this, that and those and then people can bring in their suggestions by actually delivering a ready-to-go-desert-version. Then you can decide which are qualified, and which of the qualified can or can not be used for this or that purpose.
6) Suggesting stuff:
Is there a certain direction where you need some brainstorming after reaching a dry path? So people could add suggestion for a certain thing to liven it up a bit and get things more active here in the forums.
~uh, actually I planned to write like 7 lines here, and it got another wall of text again. Hmmm seems I am unable to hold myselfe back once my mind is flowing :3
