Will the game always be a download or will it be played in-browser? Will Mac users be able to play without using wine/winebottler is basically what I'm asking.

Wine bottler is something that may be used for a temporary solution, though.

Unfortunately, it keeps crashing in both the stable and development versions of wine. I guess I'll have to wait :c

I hope we can find a solution to this. It's hard as a single developer to get it ported to every platform. But I can promise you that it will eventually happen,

Wait...could the issue be that Alpha testing is closed right now? It always tells me there is an error when it reaches 100% loading of the update.

Try this?

It's the zip containing the latest update. The updater merely pulls this exact file from the internet, so go ahead and unzip this somewhere and run WINE on Game.exe

Thanks so much Mimies this will be really helpful to know if it works Smile

Okay so it gets to the login page
Game format Screen11

But after that, I can't click in the box or type at all. I tried pressing tab to get into the text box but that didn't work either. If I press the "Quit" button on the lower right hand corner, I get the same error from before. Not sure if it's related to pressing quit or just the timing happened to be when I clicked it.

Well this is still great news to hear!

Could you screenshot the error you get when quitting?

Also, I can try building a work around for the edit box for WINE users. That's weird that the edit box doesnt work...

Can you please try using wine on this application?

I programmed two different edit boxes and if one works that would be awesome.

This is incredibly helpful by the way Smile Thanks a ton!

I can do it later today when I get back from an appt. I'm currently applying patches to wine through git which is taking longer than expected because I am learning as I go... So hopefully I can test it after the patches and it will help. Pokemon Uranium had similar issues but there is a fix in the patches so I will test that as well again when I finish.
I tried just now to run the Game.exe with wine and I noticed when I click login (still can't use the text edit boxes on Game.exe) it says something like "you are not connected. restart the server client" I can't get the message again and it won't let me click login anymore. I've tried to click "Quit" but now I can't click anything so I'm not getting the error messages.

I tried running the Edit Text. It opens and I can click the buttons but cannot enter text. I will try everything again including the other .exe file for the game once I finish the patches.

Okay. Again this is really helpful Smile
If you see errors such as
1. Can't connect
2. Alpha test closed

Those are normal. I'm more interested in the things like the fact you can't enter text. When we figure that out, I will turn the server on and we will see if you can log in and play a bit!

Ok so new plan. Which sucks for wine users but is awesome for mac users in general: im switching from wine to VMware fusion. Its not freeware but it's way better for running windows and its safer for my mac. Ill get it this weekend and test everything. Sorry that i can't continue with these wine tests. The amount of work that goes into patch commits is ridiculous and it causes me to put my computer at risk. Tonight i will download the new program

I have heard of VMware. This is an awesome solution and it would be awesome if users would go through the trouble of installing it just for our game, but I fear that not a large proportion of users would go through that trouble.

VirtualBox is also pretty good!

Well, my assumption is that if they are going to bother getting a program to run .exe files, they are probably not just running the game so they'd want something good in general. Wine is problematic (at least for me, maybe for a computer wiz...not so much) and I run several programs through it so it's about time I got something better that won't have so many issues. Wine seems to only work best with older programs because they've resolved a lot of issues years ago. For example, I have no problem running programs like GIMP or PixelShop through it.
Side Note: Maybe this should be moved to tech questions section of the forum? Just in case there is another confused Wine user.

Also, here is the message I'd get for Pokemon Uranium and it's identical to the one for OL.

Good point. I moved it!

And yeah from my experience the solution your taking is a bigger step, but works better in almost all cases.

hopefully other Linux/mac users will be able to do this. But eventually we will get it running on HTML5 so it can be played straight from this website Smile

Ok, so everything works in VMware (not shocking). Wish I could have helped more to figure out wine.

That's great to hear. Also don't worry about wine its not your fault! The info you have was certainly helpful
